Bunk Beds

I remember that one of the great things about having bunk beds is that you can make forts. Here are the boys in one of theirs (they also like to put all their bears and monkeys and Malachi in).

We are in our new house now, and we love it! (Sebby says so about 30 times a day.) We especially love exploring the neighborhood and finding new playgrounds to play on. We are slowly getting unpacked and settled in, but we already feel like it's home.

Ky eats donuts

Now that Ky is 5 months old, he's starting to roll around and try to get places. He wants to keep up with Abe and Seb already! He loves to play in his little play-tunnel and bat at the toys dangling from it. But even more than that, he likes to roll out and push up on his arms and then laugh about it. He actually seems quite pleased with himself all the time these days, whether it's for grabbing my necklace or biting a donut or making cute noises to make us look over at him. We love him!

Hooray for Sam!

Sam graduated from BYU a couple weeks ago. He never got anything besides an A! Meaning he has the highest cumulative GPA in our family, I believe. We are so proud of him--good job, Sam!

Moving/Unmoving

Malachi was lying on the floor watching me pack boxes this morning. When Sebby came home from playing at Lance's house, he saw us, and I guess he didn't want to be left out of all the fun. So Sebby lay down by Ky and the next thing I knew, they were both fast asleep. :)

One solitary Spring-like day

Here are some pictures from our picnic with cousins the other day. As you can see, Sebby quite enjoyed the jello jigglers.

I guess these pictures don't really need any commentary, except I would like to say: this looks like it's all fun and games, but imagine the mouth in the penultimate picture heading straight for you. With the intent to bite. Scary!!

Demolition by "nutcracker"

(Last year we saw the crane and wrecking ball working on some of the other towers, and Abe later said "Remember that nutcracker that was wrecking the buildings?")

Seb, Ky and I watched the wrecking ball work on this tower (U Hall, I believe it is, Allison) for about an hour this morning while Abe was at preschool. It was very interesting!! We enjoyed Philip's construction pictures on his site, so I thought I'd post a few of our own for those who are unable to observe in person. :)

Sebby loved watching the wrecking ball "boom" into the building, of course. He did say to me reassuringly several times, "Wrecking balls don't wreck cars, no, no! And they never wreck people!"

This is the view from the other side (north side) of the building. Most of the work was going on on the south side while we watched.

This picture (click to enlarge) helps show the scale of the wrecking ball. It looks like it's about half as tall as one floor. So, 5 feet high, maybe?

The ball doesn't swing out laterally like a sledgehammer, as you might expect. It just gets hoisted up and then crashes straight down. Unless he has a video camera on the top or something, I assume the crane operator can't see where he is hitting. We saw one man keep running back and forth from the front of the building to the back, where the crane cab was. I think he was telling the crane operator if he was hitting the right spot or not.

The ball would hit straight down onto the ceiling of one floor, and after a few crunching repetitions, we'd see the ball smash straight through and down to the next floor. In the picture above you can see the bulge as the floor gets ready to collapse. Of course with each hit, debris and rubble and dust would rain down.

Here you can see the main brick outer wall beginning to buckle.

With the next hit, it buckles further.

A large segment cracks and falls off.

Another crash onto the remaining segment . . .

And the entire wall collapses.

It was fascinating! We'll be going back for another look soon. :)

Train

Here is a collaboration between Sam and Abraham. Abe drew this picture during conference and then Sam colored it.

Maybe bathing all three boys at the same time isn't such a good idea :)
